walking around in disparaging circles
we did not want to stay there
but it was complicated

we knew all the songs
the reinforcements on either side
the daily siege that neither hears nor sees

I wanted to become tender
to open to love

Things are stirring all right
the knowing of oneself
of the other
the baggage and the beauty
one's willingness to hear patiently
the soul's sincere desire
already out singing
next door to relatives and friends

gently retrace the wounded steps
consider with simple affection
prepare to lose your fear and resentment
And any unjust control

My memory goes back to the time when
I begin to find the real things

seeds of agency

common sense shifted into attention
and I bowed to the light in her eye
